U Is For Undress Me

Undress Me

Undress me,
remove
my pretending
reveal
the real me
the worm
though wee in appearance
is bigger even
than Goliath
and fiercer than
a thousand restless winds
when it's left alone
with its sins
its petty sins
its pretty sins
its spectacular sins
the sins that are
ugly only
when undressed.
Petra O. Hefner

Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature. Romans 13:14

"Sin turns ugly and is subject to defeat only when seen in the light of Christ’s beauty." -- Sam Storms

U is also for unnoticed, under-appreciated and perhaps a tad ugly. But, oh, I am so hooked on these rags!

I remember receiving my first ugly rag. It was a handmade-with-love Christmas gift from Rick's grandma. Here is what I thought: Yea. Aha. Nice! And I gently, lovingly put it in the linen closet. Just so you know how spoiled I was am, it stayed there several years until the decluttering bug hit me. I couldn't just toss it, at least not without trying it first. Surprise, surprise! :-) If'n you wanna know why I love a holeee rag so much, ask me. I won't bite, and I might even give you an answer.

And now a great big THANK YOU to all the unnoticed and under-appreciated bloggers, readers, and commenters!

  1. What a great poem to start...but I had to laugh at the ugly rag!! I got a few from Ken's grandma and had no idea what I was supposed to use them for, so they sat in the cupboard for a few years. Now, I love them and use them all the time!

  2. I experienced some ugliness this weekend, and the light of life through Christ shines all the more!

Okay, so what's the deal with the rag?

  3. Petra,
This is one of the first things my Mom taught me and my little Emma to crochet. I'm with you...I like washing with those cloths. :)

    "...is bigger even

    a thousand restless winds
    when it's left alone
with its sins..." Yes, this worm is me.

An A-Z collection of your poems...you'd better get moving on that. :)

  4. Great post! Somber reminder of the fact that we really are what chuck swindoll said he hated: worm theologoy. He hated that a beliver would admit they were a worm. But the old man is truly a worm.

  5. Poem is simply wonderful Petra. Romans is my favorite, and that scripture is another reason why. Great post.
